Conceptualization and Establishment
The idea to establish Bungoma North Technical and Vocational College emerged from the growing recognition that many young people in the region lacked access to affordable and practical technical training. In response to this challenge, the Government of Kenya, through the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training under the Ministry of Education, initiated the development of TVET institutions across the country to increase opportunities for skills-based education.
The institution was established under the provisions of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Act 2013, which provides the legal framework for the establishment, governance, and regulation of technical and vocational institutions in Kenya.
Through collaboration between the national government, local leadership, and the community of Bungoma County, land was identified and set aside for the development of the college. The project formed part of the national initiative to establish Technical and Vocational Colleges in constituencies that previously lacked such facilities.
Construction of the college infrastructure began as part of the government's infrastructure expansion program aimed at improving access to training facilities in rural and semi-urban areas. The institution was designed to include modern workshops, classrooms, administration blocks, laboratories, student hostels, and other essential facilities to support competency-based education and training.
